Challenge
Client had tried to get a mortgage directly with a lender and through another broker, but both treated him as self-employed rather than as an umbrella contractor. This misunderstanding meant his income was assessed incorrectly, resulting in reduced affordability, and declined applications which impacted his credit file.
Solution
We worked directly with AG Payroll to gather the necessary income information, we reviewed his umbrella payslips and contract carefully, so we knew how to assess and present his income. We matched him with a lender and having direct access to their underwriters we were able to ensure they would assess their umbrella and contractor income correctly to calculate his true earnings ahead of applying. We placed the case with a High Street lender with a very competitive rate and managed to secure a mortgage offer.
Result
We successfully secured the mortgage needed to buy their new home.
The client was delighted to have a broker who works with his Umbrella Company and understands Umbrella income. We presented his case accurately to the lender and avoided any further declines which was impacting their credit score, they just wished they had come to us first to save a lot of time and money.
